From the entire North Carolina Region SCCA Solo crew we wanted to thank each and every one of you who came out to participate in our second hosting of the North Carolina Autocross Championship. We spent many months of planning hoping to make it worth everyone’s valuable time and effort to get all the way out to MCAS Cherry Point. The trip to the coast is no small feat for many of you, so it is greatly appreciated that you chose to come spend the weekend on our little slice of asphalt heaven. It was a pleasure for us to join our autocross friends and neighbors from Tarheel Sports Car Club, Triad Sports Car Club, and Highlands Sports Car Club , along with our SCCA cousins of the Central Carolina Region SCCA for the annual battle over the NCAC Club Cup. Congratulations to Triad for rising to the top of the pile of our 5 great clubs to bring the cup home once more.
Over two beautiful days 203 drivers converged on Foxtrot Runway to take on a pair of challenging Michael Kelly Jones designed courses. Eighty of those drivers were visiting Cherry Point for the first time. Special congratulations are in order for Daniel Wendel and Mark Shrivastava for their FTD and FTP performances. As for the rest of us: we crowned many State Champions, met a few space men, ate some fried chicken (none of which were stolen this time), drank a few drinks, saw some old friends, and made a few new ones. Oh yeah, I guess we raced a little bit, too. Hopefully everyone made it home safe and the sunburns and autocross hangovers have subsided. Extra gratitude again to Elizabeth Daly Severt, Justin, and Tara Novakowski Arnette for the amazing effort toward the weekend’s success. We couldn’t do it without them, our MCCS Cherry Point Single Marine Program friends, or most importantly: all of you who came out to play. Until next time; No Cones!
